SUMMARY:Supercomputing for AI (In-person only)
DESCRIPTION:📍Hyperight Data Club Tegnergatan 14\, 113 58 Stockholm\, Sweden \n\n\n\n\n\nRegistrations will be accepted until the workshop starts\, but the deadline to get a user account on the Dardel supercomputer is September 17. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this workshop\n\n\n\nDuring the Supercomputing for AI workshop\, you will learn how to leverage supercomputers for AI applications. We start with a general background to the EuroHPC ecosystem. Then an overview of ENCCS services\, and some inspirational success stories from Swedish companies. This will be followed by a hands-on session where everyone gets to experience and learn how HPC works\, first the traditional way (ssh login\, setting up a software environment\, submitting batch jobs to the scheduler) and then the modern way using the ColonyOS meta-operating system. We round off with a plenary discussion to ask questions\, share experiences\, and discuss the pros and cons of HPC compared to other computing environments. \n\n\n\nThe event is organised by ENCCS\, Stockholm AI\, Hyperight and PDC at KTH. \n\n\n\nWho is this workshop for?\n\n\n\nSupercomputing for AI is for researchers\, data scientists\, machine learning engineers\, and others who perform computationally heavy AI workloads. Learn about how supercomputers can supercharge your R&D projects. No supercomputing experience is required\, but we expect participants to be involved in AI projects involving large datasets. \n\n\n\nAs there are only 30 slots and it’s going to be very hands-on (bring your laptop!) we have some qualifying questions when signing up. \n\n\n\nWhat is supercomputing?\n\n\n\nSupercomputing\, also known as high-performance computing (HPC)\, is about performing complex calculations at extremely high speeds on large and massively parallel computers. Supercomputers consist of high-end multicore CPUs and cutting-edge GPUs. They can process vast amounts of data and run large-scale simulations in academic research\, as well as in industrial R&D projects. \n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Time Topic\n\n\n\n\n	13:00-13:30Welcome and introduction by ENCCS and Stockholm AI\n\n\n	13:30-14:00Overview of ENCCS\, the EuroHPC ecosystem and supercomputing services in Sweden\n\n\n	14:00-14:15Highlight of selected success stories\n\n\n	14:15-14:30Coffee break\n\n\n	14:30-15:30Hands-on introduction to the HPC environment\n\n\n	15:30-15:45Coffee break\n\n\n	15:45-16:15Introduction to ColonyOS\n\n\n	16:15-17:00Open discussion on HPC opportunities and challenges\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout ENCCS\n\n\n\nThe EuroCC National Competence Centre in Sweden (ENCCS) is the gateway for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Sweden to get access to and start efficiently utilising supercomputing resources available in Sweden and elsewhere in Europe. \n\n\n\nENCCS provides: \n\n\n\n\nfree HPC consultancy and training\n\n\n\nassistance in writing access proposals to EuroHPC machines\n\n\n\nin-depth support in proof-of-concept projects. \n\n\n\n\nAs a one-stop-shop for HPC in Sweden\, ENCCS also connects companies to HPC and AI service providers and funding agencies in the EuroHPC ecosystem. \n\n\n\nAbout Stockholm AI\n\n\n\nSince 2017\, Stockholm AI has acted as a platform for exchanging knowledge between experts in different fields relating to AI. They are dedicated to establishing Stockholm as a global player within Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)\, as well as being the main hub for the Stockholm AI / ML community. \n\n\n\nThe community is open to anyone and free. Join the movement at https://stockholm.ai/! \n\n\n\nAbout PDC\n\n\n\nPDC runs the Dardel supercomputer which is currently the fastest supercomputer for academic research in Sweden. PDC also works with industrial partners and empowers business R&D projects through HPC access\, data storage facilities\, application expert support\, and other services. \n\n\n\nLesson material\n\n\n\nEven though this event does not require any preparatory work\, feel free to dive into our lesson material from other training events\, including deep learning\, GPU programming\, and more.
