Successful PRACE typeA application for ICON

Recently a PRACE preparatory access application on the newly installed JUWELS Booster system at Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) was accepted. JUWELS Booster is an upgrade module focused on  heterogeneous computing and is the fastest supercomputer in Europe now. The Booster module contains 936 nodes with each node containing 4 Nvidia A100 GPUs.

We will follow the previously developed work by the PASC-ENIAC project of ETHZ, MPI-M, MetoSwiss and DWD and use this allocation to perform technical tests/assessments using the GPU enabled version of ICON in a configuration that later shall be used in a scientific application. Improvements will be made if weaknesses are detected.
